Thanksgiving

It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada, so I thought I’d try to be a little more “glass-is-half-full” than I was last week.

I am thankful for my sister, and the roof over my head that she offered me during COVID, and continues to provide during my current struggles.  We didn’t grow up saying “I love you” in my family, stiff upper lip and all, but I love her.  (She’s cringing as she reads this). I’m still working on breaking her down with the hugs.

I am thankful for all of the furbabies in my life: my kids Frankie, Lily, Callie, and Henry, and my nephews and niece Spitfire, Jiggy and Sally.

I am thankful for my best friend Sinead, who is always there for a pep talk or an attitude adjustment, and always a laugh. Whatever I happen to need in the moment. She is my sister from another mister, and I love her.

I am thankful for Sinead’s daughters, my nieces, Niamh and Maebh. I am incredibly proud of the young women they are becoming. I couldn’t love them any more if they were my blood.

I am thankful for the wonderful group of women who re-entered my life during COVID and have been absolute stalwarts for me.  I’ve written about them in multiple blog posts. I’m sure they’re sick of their pictures being posted!

I am thankful for being a book lover, and experiencing the privilege of having my own personal library.  I am also thankful for my location in southeastern Chatham-Kent at the intersection of three other counties and library systems. Yes, I have multiple library cards – more on that in an upcoming post.

Finally, I am thankful to live in Canada, a country with government programs that have sustained me during this unhappy period in my life.  It was an accident of birth, but being born in Canada is a blessing I feel every day.  There’s nowhere else I’d rather be.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!  May you all have an abundance of things for which you are thankful.

  1. I’m grateful to have known you all these years. Watching you transition from hard core city girl back to your farm girl roots has been awesome. I had no idea you could bake like that.

I ‘m so happy that you and your sister have survived that torment of a man, and decided to make a go of it together.

Rhonda, I believe this will all work out. Just hang in there, and the answer will present itself.
