Green thumb? Me?

Hello, friends! Where has the time gone? It’s September already?

I am pleased to report that my experience with a garden has been much more successful this summer than last. Who remembers that disaster? I started out with more modest ambitions this year, and just stuck to a good plot at the end of the garage – so maybe 2 car lengths? I’m not so good with the spatial relationships.

I was also fortunate enough to procure seedlings from my old friend, Jeff, who runs Five Fern Farm. No more planting from seeds! Jeff has the greenest of thumbs, and the best customer service! I got cabbage and lettuce, multiple varieties, arugula, cherry tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, cucumbers, oregano, basil, thyme and mint. So much goodness! Everything has been a big success, but for the cucumbers; they were a little underwhelming, but I am going to attribute that to user error.

Romaine Lettuce
Red Leaf and Green Leaf Lettuce
Mint – fantastic for cocktails!

The tomato harvest has been especially prolific. There’s not much I love more than fresh tomatoes, warm from the garden.

Look at all the lovely tomatoes!

It’s been so much fun turning this bounty into meals! Basil pesto, tomato pesto, tomato soup, bruschetta, even the humble sandwich. So many fresh, delicious options! It has been the best time!

Nothing tastes better than fresh pesto!
Tomato pesto may not look like you’re used to, but it’s delicious!
Creamy tomato orzo soup
Bruschetta
Toasted Caprese sandwich

I’ll be doing this again next summer, for sure! Get ready for my order, Jeff!
