This has been a good month. I struggled a lot with my move here last year – I sometimes still do. But this month, I’ve been reminded of some of the good things about being here – the local produce is unparalleled. Strawberry season was a good one – I made jam, stocked up my freezer, and made simple syrup for a delicious gin fizz. I discovered Haskap berries – made lots of baked goods with them for Urban Sunset Farms. I also discovered black raspberries, and met the proprietor of Noble Organics, who grow them. I have become obsessed with black raspberries! Jam, scones, ice cream, gelato, simple syrup for mocktails and cocktails! What can’t you do with these babies? And cherries! Cedar Springs has the best cherries! And last week, I ate my first apricots of the season. And Ontario is entering Step 3 of the Covid reopening, which means indoor dining is coming back. I just made plans for dinner with Susan and Heidi, whom I haven’t seen in a while. I’m in a good place.
